Services Provided
Medical:
We believe that preventative medicine is the best medicine. An annual wellness exam gives us the chance to evaluate your pet's overall health and to detect problems before they turn into serious illnesses. Because your pet can't tell you in words how he is feeling, we must rely on a thorough physical examination, laboratory testing and your observations of your pet in order to determine if your pet is truly healthy.
Our vet will ask you specific questions and examine the following areas to assess your pets overall health:
- Temperature, pulse, respiration rate, and body weight
- Eyes, ears, nose and throat
- Gums, teeth, tongue, and palate
- Listen to the heart and lungs
- Reproductive system
- Condition of the skin and hair
- Abdominal palpation
- Legs and paws
- Condition of joints, muscles, lymph nodes, and nose
Based on the results of the examination, we may recommend further diagnostic tests, such as radiographs (x-rays) and blood tests. Vaccinations and preventative medicines will be prescribed on an individual pet basis.
Because your pet ages more quickly than you do, it is essential that you take your pet to the veterinarian at least once a year and even more frequently as your pet gets older.
Diagnostic:
If medical test are required to further identify or monitor a health problem, we have a well- equipped in-house laboratory to supply quality results. We can also send samples to an outside laboratory for specialized testing. Our radiology department allows us to use further diagnostic tools to look into your pet's body. Broken bones, heart disease, pneumonia and cancer are sometimes diagnosed with radiographs.
Surgical:
Our hospital has a modern surgical suite with patient monitoring equipment available to handle routine surgical procedures.
Prior to surgery, each patient receives a thorough physical examination to identify any existing medical conditions that might endanger your pet's health. Because not all problems can be detected on examination we also strongly recommend preanesthetic blood testing. These tests not only give us a more complete picture of your pet's health but also allow us to tailor an anesthetic regimen specifically for your pet.
Isoflurane is the anesthetic used for the majority of our extended surgical procedures. This gas is safe because it is inhaled and absorbed through the respiratory system. The benefits include rapid and mild recovery. Every patient is monitored by our highly trained veterinary assistants using state of the art monitoring equipment.
Pain management is a part of our pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative anesthetic and medical protocol. All surgical patients including those undergoing routine procedures such as ovariohysterectomy or castrations receive pain control medications.
Dental:
Oral health is very important to overall pet health. Tartar accumulation and associated gum disease can have devastating effects on an animal's overall health. Particularly at risk for disease are the heart, liver and kidney. Our doctor includes a dental exam in the yearly physical and can recommend preventative care at home or schedule a complete dental cleaning to remove tartar and polish the teeth.
Bathing And Grooming:
We ask that the pet be in the hospital by 8:30am and is usually ready to go home by 3pm. Routine bathing and flea treatments can be scheduled any day except Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Our groomer takes appointments Tuesdays and Fridays.
Boarding:
For the safety of our patients, we require that all hospitalized or boarding pets be current on their vaccinations. Any routine care, such as flea control, will be taken care of at the client's expense. Owners of pets with special needs should speak with a Veterinarian before leaving their pet. Services such as dental care, routine surgery, comprehensive exams, vaccinations and laboratory work can be conveniently provided during your pet's stay. Reservations are recommended.
